Of Garlic and Pigs

Note: click on the small images for a nearly full screen view.

The gardens at Primo are beautiful. I worked for about four hours today weeding and watering and planting. The garlic is almost ready to be harvested, and there are a bunch of little white blossoms all over. We opened up a blossom to taste it, and it's incredibly garlicky and spicy.

I've fallen in love with the pigs here at Primo. Yes, they smell funky and they snort a lot, but they're incredibly cute if you watch them for a while. They rest in a big mud puddle they've created under the shade for most of the day, because it's so hot. But in the early evening they come out and stick their snouts into every piece of earth they come across. Here are some pictures:

This little porker was trying to get into the big plastic tub of water to cool off. It took him a few tries before those hind legs made it into the tub with the rest of him.

...but he was so much cooler than the rest of the piggies.

We'll still be in Maine at the beginning of August. We'll either still be here in Rockland or we'll be taking our time driving back down the coast. We drove up in a hurry, and we want to spend a day in Portland, a day at Old Orchard Beach, and possibly a bit of time in towns like Freeport and Ogunquit. Just tell us where you'll be, and maybe we can have lunch or dinner together.
